Pelting, October 28, 1910. WITH reference to my despatch No. 373 of the 22nd instant, I have the honour to transmit herewith copy of a letter forwarded to me by the Government of Hong Kong from Messrs. David Sassoon and Co. (Limited) and E. D. Sassoon and Co., stating that the eleven chests of Indian opium destined for the Kiangsi province and detained at Canton have now been released and allowed to proceed to their destination.

WITH reference to your letter of the 26th ultimo re the detention at Canton of eleven chests of Indian opium destined for the Kiangsi province, we have now been informed by the parties concerned that the opium in question has been allowed to be forwarded to its destination.

All the other opium previously seized, however, has not yet been released.
